Pope Francis: Angelus appeal on behalf of persecuted Christians

Pope Francis: Angelus appeal on behalf of persecuted Christians

"So today we pray especially for Christians who are discriminated against because of their witness to Christ and the Gospel. We are close to those brothers and sisters who, like St. Stephen, are unjustly accused and subjected to violence of various kinds. I am sure that, unfortunately, they are more numerous today than in the early days of the Church. There are so many! This happens especially where religious freedom is still not guaranteed or not fully realized. But it happens even in the countries and areas that on paper are protecting freedom and human rights, but where in fact the believers, and especially Christians, encounter restrictions and discrimination. I would like to ask you to pray for these brothers and sisters in a moment in silence..."
