Pope Francis : "Miserando atque eligendo"...

It was on the Feast of Saint Matthew in 1953 that a young seventeen year-old Jorge Bergoglio was touched by the mercy of God and felt the call to religious life in the footsteps of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.

"The presence of His Holiness Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch... is a way of showing, from the Orthodox side, the willingness to go further in this dialogue and to breach the divisions that have kept us apart for centuries.”

Card. Tagle: Pope just being himself

“As a bishop, you want people to come to greet you,” Cardinal Tagle said, trying to explain the Pope’s decision to step out of protocol. “You’re not concerned about security. That’s the farthest thing (from) your mind.”

We need to understand God's mercy well, this merciful Father who has such patience... Think of the prophet Isaiah who asserts that even if our sins were scarlet red, God's love would make them white as snow. That is beautiful.

Papa telefona para a Cúria Geral dos Jesuítas e causa admiração

Papa telefona para a Cúria Geral dos Jesuítas e causa admiração

This is the OFFICIAL version of the story of the Pope's phone call to the Jesuit Father General... it's better than earlier accounts! :)
"Pronto, thank you for calling the Jesuits. How may I assist you?"
"Hello, I'm Pope Francis. I'd like to talk with Father General."
The receptionist almost said, "And I'm Napoleon." But, he thought better of it and asked,
"Sir, you're calling on whose behalf?"
"It's true, I'm Pope Francis. And you, what's your name?"
"My name is Andrea."
"How are you Andrea?"
"Fine... Excuse me, I'm a little confused."
"Don't worry, I'd like to thank Father General for the nice letter that he wrote me."
"Forgive me, Holiness. One moment."
Andrea transfers the call - without introduction - to Brother Alonso, Father General's secretary....
"Pronto, this is Brother Alonso, who's speaking?"
"This is the Pope, and I'd like to say hello to Father General."
"Yes, one moment."
Brother Alonso heads toward Fr. General's office, and says,
"Holy Father, congratulations on your election. We are very happy with your appointment. We are praying for you too."
"Are you praying for me to go ahead or go back?"
"Naturally, to go ahead."
The Pope laughed. And Brother Alonso, so overcome with emotion, walked right into Father General's office without knocking.
Father General looked surprised as Brother Alonso handed him the phone and said, "It's the Pope!"
Since the Holy Father's election, the switchboard at the Jesuit General House has been ringing nonstop. Poor Andrea!

Pope Francis to Media Representatives: Full Text

The Church is certainly a human and historical institution with all that that entails, yet her nature is not essentially political but spiritual: the Church is the People of God, the Holy People of God making its way to encounter Jesus Christ. Only from this perspective can a satisfactory account be given of the Church’s life and activity.
